- Parents seek solace in churches
The building, where residents now stares at any stranger with suspicion, was the home of two abducted kids; Chinaza Okpara 4 and Chikamso 2.
These girls were abducted from a salon, where their mother was a manager. The salon is right in front of their house.
The girls were abducted by an apprentice hairstylist, identified as Rose. She disappeared with the girls three days after she walked into the salon and applied as an apprentice hairstylist. The missing children were abducted on May, 14. But 88 days after they were taken, they are yet to be found. The clock is still ticking and the days still counting. The broken hearted parents, Mr. and Mrs Emeka Okpara, from Orlu, Imo State, have been living in sorrow.
They refused to be consoled. According to Mr. Okpara, Rose walked into the salon, where his wife, Mrs. Okpara, worked as a manager. Rose begged to be employed as hairstylist. She was told the owner of the salon, Mrs. Patience Eze, travelled. But rather than leave, Rose knelt down and started begging Mrs. Okpara. She begged to be allowed to start immediately, stressing she was tired of staying at home.
He said: “My wife became sympathetic and allowed her to work. She gradually started becoming familiar with us. She dropped no phone number. She brought no relatives. She promised she would soon bring her relatives, but that she should be allowed to start work immediately. On the third day, which was Saturday, Rose took my two girls from the shop.
She also took a plate. She said she was going to buy food; this was what she told people that saw her along the way. My wife had gone to buy something across the road. Rose entered the opposite Cemetery Market with the children. That was the last we saw of her and the children till today.”
Mother of the kids, Mrs. Okpara, was said to have broken down emotionally, as hope of rescuing her two girls, dimmed. Some residents said that there was a time, it was feared, Mrs. Okpara would die. But she and her husband started moving from churches, praying and feeding on hope. Hope that they would find Chinaza and Chikamso one day. The owner of the salon, Mrs. Patience Eze, described the abduction of the kids as mystifying.
She said: “I travelled for burial when it happened. I was later told that an apprentice hairstylist came, begging to be allowed to work. She was told to come back when I returned, but she knelt down and started begging. She was allowed to start work. Three days later, she ran away with Chikamso and Chinaza. Since then, the children have not been found.
There was no phone contact and no ransom demanded. We reported the matter to the police, but since then, nothing new has been discovered.
“We have been holding prayer sessions and rushing to any location we heard kidnapped children had been rescued. But none of these victims were Chikamso and Chinaza. We also heard about children found with kidnappers at Ikorodu, we rushed down there. At FESTAC, in July, a kidnapper was caught, we also rushed down there, but it wasn’t Rose.
This problem has gone out of hand. The government needs to understand this is a serious social issue, which requires immediate intervention. When problems don’t directly affect people, they wouldn’t take such issues seriously.”
Eze revealed that the abducted kids’ parents’ state of minds had been bad. “The kids’ parents are now looking up to God. God has the final say.
The police shouldn’t relent in looking for the girls until they are found,” Eze pleaded. Another resident, said: “Rose planned to abduct four children that day. She took two more kids along, but was stopped by their brother. Being that she was working with the missing kid’s mum, she was allowed to go ahead with them and buy food. The whole thing was carefully planned and executed.”https://newtelegraphonline.com/mother-still-traumatised-four-months-childrens-abduction/
