The suspect, Faloseyi Oluwole, 30, also used to pose as bank manager, working in Abuja, to hoodwink his victims. He claimed on his Facebook profile, that he studied at Madonna University, Okija, Anambra State. Meanwhile, he’s just a school cert holder.
Police have described him as a serial Facebook rapist. Whenever he got what he wanted from his victims, he would immediately block them from his Facebook. Oluwole, married, said: “I didn’t open a Facebook account to hurt ladies, just to get them as lovers.” “My advice to ladies is that they shouldn’t love a man because of money.
Materialism and love of money, is killing most girls that use social media.” Oluwole’s modus operandi was to send friend requests to ladies on Facebook. Once any lady accepts, he starts chatting and wooing her.
The father of two would later ask the lady to meet him. He would take the victim to a hotel, have sex with her and later steal her valuables, including phones and ATM cards. Already, five girls have fingered him as chatting them up on Facebook, soliciting for sexual friendship.
He, however, admitted to have had sex with only two and stole from them. Police believed there are other victims. It’s also believed that Oluwole has other Facebook accounts, which police are still trying to locate. The present Facebook account he gave to the police, showed that he last visited his Facebook wall in June. He, however, chatted on Facebook with Vivian on Monday.
His Facebook account also showed only one friend. On Monday, Oluwole told Vivian to meet him at a hotel in Festac. He didn’t know that the police and another of his victim, Atinuke, got Vivian to lead him into police net.
Police said he would be charged for rape and stealing. The police added: “The suspect would be charged for rape. We would prove it in court. To have sex with a lady while impersonating or under false representation is rape.” The suspect said he used to go to Benin Republic, to buy shoes and suits and supply to a waiting market. He explained that he decided to embark on the Facebook scam after his business nosedived.
After he opened the account, he discovered that no matter how many times he chatted with ladies and said sweet words to them, they wouldn’t take his profession of love serious. He said that many of them would ask him, “So, you’re just a trader?” He was troubled and discussed the needling problem with a friend. The friend showed him the way out.
Oluwole said: “Before, I placed trader on my profile as my job, but most of the girls I wooed on Facebook, didn’t care for a trader. A friend told me that ladies prefer men working in banks or oil companies.” Oluwole, who claimed to have opened the Facebook last year, later changed his profile, declaring himself a banker.
Oluwole’s met his waterloo after he lured a victim, Atinuke, to a hotel at Festac area, had sex with her and later stole her two phones, N7000, ATM card and wristwatch. The police said: “On August 19, 2016, Atinuke came to the station, to complain about the suspect, Oluwole. On that fateful day, the suspect called Mercy, whom he met on Facebook, to meet him at a hotel in Festac.
He said there was a birthday party. Mercy told him that she travelled, but would link him up with her cousin, Atinuke. Incidentally, he met Mercy on Facebook and had been wooing her. If not that she travelled, the birthday would have been the first time they would be meeting.” Mercy linked Atinuke and Oluwole and they later contacted each other on phone. They agreed to meet at the hotel. Atinuke came all the way from Iyana-Ipaja, to meet the suspect at Festac.
He booked a room and had sex with her. All along, Atinuke thought she was dealing with a bank manager. Oluwole told Atinuke to give him her Personal Identification Number of her ATM (PIN). He said he didn’t have cash on him, but would transfer money into Atinuke’s account. He said that as a bank manager, it was easy for him to transfer using her ATM PIN. Atinuke fell for the ruse.
The police said: “After the sex, he said they should go to the reception to order food. While they were waiting for the food, he suddenly got up, told Atinuke that he wanted to greet the hotel manager, who was a friend.
He left. When the food came, Atinuke told the waiters to hold on for the return of Oluwole. After hours of waiting, she went in search of him. When she got to the hotel room, she discovered that he had ransacked her handbag, taken her N700,000, her two phones, ATM card and wrist watch. One of the phones is Galaxy S5, valued at N200, 000.
Before that, when he was with Atinuke, he pretended someone was calling him. He picked his phone and made mention of huge amount of money, which he promised to transfer to the person. Atinuke said that he used the ATM card to withdraw N170, 000 from her account, but the suspect insisted that he withdrew only N1, 000. Atinuke was stranded and spent the night at the hotel. A Good Samaritan gave her N700 the following day for transport home.”
When she got home, she called Mercy and told her all that transpired. Mercy tried to check Oluwole on Facebook and discovered he had blocked her. She went to his wall, discovered that he is friends with Vivian. The girls chatted up Vivian. In the course of chatting, Vivian revealed that Oluwole had been wooing her too. She agreed to assist Atinuke and Mercy to arrest Oluwole. The ladies went back to Festac Police Station and narrated their plan. The police agreed to work with them. Vivian chatted with Oluwole, wishing him happy birthday.
He told her that he was in Lagos. He told her to join him at a hotel in Festac. Vivian hired a cab and headed to the hotel, while two policemen in mufti, on motorbike, followed. Oluwole was grabbed moments after he joined Vivian in the taxi. The major idea behind tracking and catching Oluwole was to get Atinuke’s phone back. But Oluwole told them after his arrest, that he sold the Galaxy phone for just a paltry sum of N20,000.
He kept the second phone at his house. Asked about Atinuke’s ATM card, Oluwole said he threw it away after he discovered she had just N1, 500 in her account. Oluwole, who lives at Agbara, Ogun State, said: “I met Mercy on Facebook and started wooing her. I told her I was in Lagos and that she should join me at Festac for a birthday party. Yes, I told her that I reside in Abuja and was working with a bank as manager. It was last Friday that I called her.
Mercy said she wasn’t around. She promised to introduce her friend to me. She gave me Atinuke’s phone number. “When I called Atinuke to join me, she said she would collect N30, 000. I Oluwole after arrest told her that N30,000 was too much. She said she needed to take care of her house rent and other stuff. She came that night. She showered and came to meet me on the bed. We had sex without condom.
I told her that I wanted to transfer money into her account. She gave me her ATIM PIN. I told her we should go and eat. I pretended to lock the door and handed the key to her. When we got downstairs, I told her I wanted to go and greet the manager.
I went back to the hotel room and took her ATM card, phones, money and wristwatch. I later threw the ATM card away. She had only N1,500. I didn’t withdraw anything. Not even N1000.”
Oluwole said that on Saturday, he went to Alaba International Market and sold the N200, 000 phone for N20, 000.He said: “On Monday, which was my actual birthday, Vivian came online to wish me happy birthday. I told her I was in Lagos.
I told her to join me at Festac that I would pay for her cab. I was trying to pay for the cab when police arrested me.” He insisted that he had only carried out the scam on one Bose and Atinuke. He said that he collected N25, 000 from Bose to pay his wife’s hospital after she gave birth.
He promised to refund the money, but didn’t. Speaking about Bose, he said: “We met on Facebook and had sex.” But when one of his Facebook accounts was checked, under the name of ‘Nipheme Ajanaku,’ it was discovered that he had carried out similar scam on one Joy Grace. Grace wrote on his wall: “This guy is a thief.
He stole my ATM and withdrew my money and later exchanged my ATM card with another person’s ATM this evening.” Grace posted this on June 23, at 12:35am. Atinuke said: “He said there was a birthday party.
He said I should meet him at a hotel, located at Rasaq Junction, Festac. He told me his boss was the owner of the hotel. He also told me that he was a bank manager. When we left the hotel room, I personally locked the door and held the key.
But he was able to enter the room and stole my things.” Mercy said: “Oluwole had been chatting and wooing me for almost a year now. I didn’t fall for him because I don’t like bankers. When he asked me to a birthday party, I accepted.
But on the day he called that I should join him, I had travelled for burial. I connected him to Atinuke. After he stole Atinuke’s phones, he blocked me. He used to recharge his phones, to call and spend like three hours talking.
