Suspected rustlers, rapists held in Plateau

Police yesterday paraded two suspected cattle rustlers arrested art Agigi village in Bassa Local Government Area of Plateau State.
Briefing journalists at the Command Headquarters in Jos, the Commissioner of Police, Mr. Undie Adie, said the two suspected cattle rustlers, Bala Yahaya Mohammed and Salihu Ishaku, stole 15 cows and 14 sheep after killing a seven-year-old boy,
Mohammed Ibrahim, who was in charge of the cows and sheep.
Adie also paraded three suspected rapists, Suleiman Usman, Umar Aliyu and Usman Bala, all of Angwan Rogo, Jos, who allegedly conspired with Yahaya Alias Kenza to rape a 14-year-old girl, Basima Bashir, in his room after drugging her.
He said: “Preliminary investigation at the Police Division revealed that the cows and sheep belong to Ibrahim Haruna of Agigi in Bassa Local Government Area of Plateau State which were stolen with the connivance of some herdsmen. The suspects conspired and killed Mohammed Ibrahim aged seven years who was together with them and was in charge of the 15 cows and 14 sheep.”
The police commissioner disclosed that the suspects had been apprehended and were assisting the police in the investigation at the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Jos.
He added: “Also on 26/01/2018, Zainab Mohammed of Angwan Rogo, Jos went to Angwan Rogo Police Division and reported that on the 23/01/2018 Suleiman Usman, Umar Aliyu and Usman Bala all of Agwan Rogo, Jos, conspired with Yahaya Alias Kenza surname unknown now at large and lured her daughter, Basima Bashir, aged 14 years, in to his room and drugged her and when she became unconscious, she was raped by the suspects.”
Adie said the suspects had equally confessed to the crime and the case would be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department (SCIID) for in depth investigation.
He added that they would be charged to court as soon as practicable.
