Man killed in failed anti-bullet charm test

A middle-aged man, identified as Black Arrow, was shot and killed in Benin, Edo State, when an anti-bullet charm failed.
The incident occurred on Saturday when Black Arrow’s friend wanted to test an anti-bullet charm prepared by a native doctor on the deceased.
The victim was shot dead by his friend. It was gathered that the incident, which threw the Ogbe quarters into confusion, occurred about 5pm. Angry youths and distraught relations of the deceased went on the streets to protest the killing. The protesters set ablaze the residential building of the late Black Arrow’s friend.

The residents of the area, shop owners and passers-by took to their heels while policemen were called to check the situation. Motorists plying Ekenwan Road at the Ring Road end of the Kings Square abandoned their vehicles and fled. The victim is said to be a relation of a popular business magnate and top traditional chief.
Anti-riot policemen deployed by the state police command quelled the situation by firing canisters of tear gas to disperse the protesting youth. But when contacted on phone yesterday, the state Commissioner of Police, Mr Foluso Adebanjo, said he was not aware of the incident. Also, the state Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), DSP Noble Umoh, could not be reached for comment. Nobody could give the name of the native doctor or the location the deceased and his friend went to prepare the failed charm.
