Husband who strangled pregnant wife, surrenders self

Mr. Lekan Shonde, who killed his five months pregnant wife, Ronke Shonde, at their Egbeda residence, Lagos State, leaving her corpse with their two kids, has surrendered himself today to the police.

Lekan was alleged to have strangled his wife Ronke and disappeared. 
He left the corpse of the woman with their two kids and locked them inside the apartment. Neighbours later broke down the door.
According to a friend of the bereaved family, Lekan surrendered himself to the police after friends convinced him that there was no sense in running and living the life of a fugitive.
Most of his friends, described him as loving a husband.
They expressed shock over the allegation of murder.
One of them said: " Lekan is a junior to me when we were in school. He's not a killer. He loves his wife. We, who are his friends, are ready to stick my necks out for him. We convinced him to surrender himself to the police."
The Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Fatai Owoseni, will be addressing journalists today on the matter.
