Police in Benin, Edo State, have arrested six suspected homosexuals –
Festus Osagiede (24), Hyacinth Omahanrebho (20), Itama Omon (25),
Onwuka Prince (48), Monye Chukwu (23) and Osadebe Kelvin (26).
The Assistant Inspector General of Police, Zone 5 Headquarters, AIG
Musa Daura, disclosed this yesterday. Daura said the arrest was carried
out by policemen attached to the Zonal Anti-Vice Section while acting on
a tip-off.
The AIG said five of the suspects were apprehended at their hideout
on No. 12, Ikpoba (pandemonium) Slope while Kelvin was arrested
somewhere behind Benson Idahosa University about 6pm on Wednesday while
trying to flee Benin.
According to him, the suspects have confessed to be homosexuals and
have carnal knowledge of one other on several occasions in their
hideout. Daura said preliminary investigation conducted into the matter
showed that the suspects had been committing the offence since 2006.
