UPDATE: Strangled mother of two was pregnant

The late Mrs. Ronke Shonde, a mother of two, who was allegedly strangled by her husband, Lekan Shonde, at the Orelope, Egbeda area of Lagos State on Friday, maybe five months pregnant.

This latest information was divulged by a source close to the bereaved family.

The source also said: “I don’t think Lekan was in the habit of beating Ronke. It’s true they were having marital issues, but so are many couples. It however doesn’t mean it's an habitual act.”

Immediately Lekan realized his wife was dead, he bolted, leaving their two kids with their mother’s lifeless body in their living room.   

Lekan was said to have locked the kids inside the apartment with the corpse, before taking off.

The late Ronke, was a member of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), Destiny Sanctuary, located close to late Oba of Egbeda, palace.

According to a church member, who doesn’t wish to be mentioned, Ronke was in church late week Sunday with her two kids. She was also expecting the third child.

The church member added that it wasn’t true that Ronke was rich.

The member added: “Ronke was pregnant, but I don’t know how many months gone. Yes, she used to dress nice to church, but that doesn’t mean anything these days. The way people dress to church is not a parameter to judge whether they are rich or poor. The truth of the matter is that Ronke used to work with Guaranty Trust Bank (GTB), until she was laid off. Since then, she had been flitting from one business to another."

The church member further said: “I know they had been having some problems, but I don’t think he used to hit her. Since Ronke was relieved of her duty with GTB, she had been buying and selling clothes. I don’t know what could have pushed Lekan to beat his pregnant wife. I truly pity Ronke and the kids. I also pity Lekan. Some people alleged Ronke was cheating on Lekan, but it’s not true! I don’t believe she could be cheating on Lekan, while expecting his baby.”
