· As police rescue another baby
Detectives attached to Festac Police Station, have rescued two babies. One of the babies is just three weeks old, while the second is six weeks old. The first baby, a girl, was said to have been abandoned by her mother, Bose Ojo 27, inside a bush, moments after she delivered the baby herself.
Ojo was unaware that a woman was watching her from a storey building, was alleged to have attempted leaving the baby in the bush. The watcher raised the alarm.
Fielding questions from investigators, Ojo, from Kogi State, denied attempting to abandon her baby girl. She told police that she just dropped the baby to have a rest, when she was sighted and suspected to be abandoning her.
A police source said: “The woman denied trying to
abandon her baby. She said the father of the baby is one
Oduayo. She doesn’t know his surname or his contact address. She only had a six primary education. She has no skill, except selling of sachet water. She came to Lagos in December 2010 and met the father of the child in 2006. She said the man, who is a professional driver, is from Ekiti State. She was his live in lover at Orile Iganmu, Lagos State, before his house was demolished and he abandoned her.”
According to a police source, the mother of the baby appeared to be victim, needing assistance, than jail term.
It was gathered that preliminary
investigation revealed that she is not married, had no visible means of
sustenance, no accommodation, and no skills and appeared to be in bad health,

A police source said: “On July, 2016, two babies were picked up in different parts of Festac Town. The first baby, about three weeks old female, was allegedly abandoned by a woman, apparently mother of the child, at about 9am on July 27, 2016, around Forte Petrol Filing Station, at 21 Road Festac Town, Lagos. A woman saw the mother from the first floor of her house, while she was dropping the baby. The mother, Bose Ojo, was pursued and arrested before she could escape. The second baby, about six weeks old male, was abandoned at Third Avenue, behind ‘H’ Close, Festac Town. A Good Samaritan woman, who lives in the close, picked him up at around 9am.”
According to the police source, Ojo and her daughter had been examined and are being treated at Mother & Child Care, located at First Avenue, Festac town, Lagos. Doctor The baby is presently on admission.
The male child had also been examined and certified alright at the Mother and Child Care, First Avenue, Festac Town, Lagos.
The police source said that there was an urgent need to provide protection order for both children.
The source further said: “The “suspect mother” definitely cannot keep that child unless she gets support.” The mother herself also needs help. Police is trying to link babies to welfare.”
