A security guard, attached to one of
the banks in Lagos State, has been arrested by detectives attached to the
Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS), Ikeja, Lagos State, for burgling homes with
screw drivers.
The suspect, Nath Job, 36, along
with his friends, Yusuf Badmus, 38, Chimezie Njinaobi, 25 and Ibrahim Dominic,
36, were arrested for breaking and entering.
Job explained that he met Badmus,
last year and a friendship developed. Early this year, Badmus told him that he
was scouting for a cab driver that would assist him to take some cartons to
Ikeja.
Job said that immediately Badmus
explained his needs, his mind went to his town’s man, Ibrahim. Ibrahim is a cab
driver.
Job said: “I introduced Ibrahim to
Yusuf. Ibrahim is somebody I can recommend to anyone. I trust him. I didn’t
know that Badmus and his team were criminals, who used to steal peoples’ things
and sell them.”
The police said: “The suspects
specialised in breaking and entering victims’ houses using screw drivers. Once
they are able to penetrate, they raid such homes. We have recovered generators,
freezers, electronics and other home appliances worth over N2million from them.
The suspects have also confessed to the crime.”
Job explained that he didn’t know
why he was arrested until he got to police station.
Badmus, who sells soaps at Agege
Market, said he met Njinaobi through one of his friends. It was this elusive
friend that taught him how to break and enter houses using screw drivers.
Badmus said: “We always operate
without weapons. We have never injured anyone in the four operations we did. I
was in my wife’s shop when I saw my friend, Chimezie with policemen. I was
surprised when I saw them because we parted ways a long time ago. My wife had
always advised me to stop moving with Chimezie and his friends. I listened to
her and since then, I had not been going anywhere with them. I was surprised
when they came with policemen to arrest me.”
Njinaobi, who sells wrist watches,
said: “I met Yusuf where I was residing at Agege. We became friends. I didn’t
introduce anybody into this business; rather, we were all living together in
the same place. I was arrested through a Tecno W4 phone I sold for N17, 000 at
the Ikeja Computer village. Police tracked the phone to the person I sold it,
and from there I was arrested.”
The cab driver, Ibrahim, recounted
that Job called him that Badmus needed a cab driver for some of his goods.
Ibrahim said: “As a taxi driver, I
move people from one place to another. I only went once with them to carry a
carton. That was on September 15; I went to Agege with them to carry a carton
to Ikeja. I didn’t know the content of the carton. Since then, I have not seen
them. The next time I saw them was when they came with policemen to arrest.”
