Governorship election boycott: Police arrests printers of IPOB leaflets

The Anambra State Police Command,  arrested two persons during a raid on a printing press, where some people were allegedly printing thousands of Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) leaflets.

The leaflets were geared towards compelling the electorate in the state to boycott the November 18, 2017 governorship election in the state.

The Anambra State Commissioner of Police, Garba Umar, speaking with journalists in Awka, said that the Onitsha Area Commander, Mr. Yahaya Abubakar, led the raid on the printing press.

Umar said that two persons arrested, Elochukwu Okolosi and Udeagha Ebubechukwu, would be charged to court for breaking the laws of the country.

Umar further said: “IPOB is a proscribed organization. I had earlier warned people of Anambra State to desist from associating with the organisation and its activities. By circulating leaflets and directing people not to come out for the Anambra Governorship Election, these people must explain why they want to sabotage the Federal Government’s efforts to maintain peace in the country.

“INEC and the security agencies have been preparing for a successful election, come November 18, but this illegal group is determined to continue to cause confusion in the country. These two persons, Elochukwu Okolosi and Udeagha Ebubechukwu, were at the printing press and working on the IPOB leaflets when they were arrested.  They have to tell us who their clients are; they claimed that the materials were brought to them to cut. We wish to urge the people of Anambra State to ignore these saboteurs by coming out to vote as the police are ready to provide adequate security during the election.”

The CP further called on the people of the state to assist the police in tracking those whose objectives were to scuttle the forthcoming election.
