An Ikeja High Court, Lagos State has heard how three teenage friends allegedly conspired with a 32-year-old man, Badejo Wale, to gang rape a secondary schoolgirl.
The three teenagers, identified as
Femi Olusanya, 18, Jubril Yusuf, 16, and Wale Oluwanifemi, 15, were docked
alongside Wale on a two count charge of rape and sexual abuse.
The matter was reported before
Justice Oluwatoyin Ipaye, by an Investigating Police Officer (IPO), Assistant
Superintendent of Police (ASP), Adeyemi Adewale.
While being led in evidence by the
prosecuting officer, Mr. Akin George, Adewale told the court that the accused
persons committed the alleged offence on May 30, 2013 at Mile 12 area of Lagos
State.
According to the IPO, the victim was
formerly dating the 1st defendant, Olusanya, but her mother was against the
relationship. The victim’s mother was said to have once reported Olusanya to
his boss.
Adewale said: "On the day of
the incident, the victim was on her way to school when Olusanya called and
persuaded her to accompany him to his friend's house at Mile 12 area. She
obliged and went with him. But unknown to her, the boyfriend had planned to
have sex with her. When they arrived at the place, he immediately held her and
forceful had sex with him. After he had his turn, the second defendant, Yusuf,
a secondary school dropout, ran into the room and also raped her. As she lay on
the floor, partially weak, the third defendant, Oluwanifemi, also joined the
duo in the room and raped her.
"However, after the incident,
the victim did not report the matter to anyone out of fear. A day after the
incident, she met the fourth defendant, Wale, who accosted her and told her
that he knew she was raped by three of his friends. He, thereafter, threatened
to leak her rape secret if she didn’t grant him access to her. He told her that
he would keep quiet, only if she agreed to have sex with him.
"He later gave her an address
to an apartment on Dada Street, also at Mile 12, where he had carnal knowledge
of her.
Adewale said: "Wale also
threatened to kill the victim, cut her body into pieces and throw them into the
canal if she ever mentioned what happened to anyone. The victim's parents were
later informed about their daughter's ordeal and the matter was reported to the
police. The alleged culprits were arrested and taken to the police station
where they made confessional statements while admitting to have committed the
crime.”
Meanwhile, it was learnt that
Olusanya had been warned by the victim's mother, Iyano Sanni, to stay away from
her daughter.
During yesterday's proceedings,
Counsel to the four defendants, Victor Opara, objected to the admissibility of
his clients statements, while arguing that they were coerced and involuntarily
made the statements.
Justice Ipaye thereafter adjourned
the matter till November 1 for a trial within trial to determine the
authenticity of the defendants’ statement.
