Four members of kidnapping gang arrested, stolen car recovered


 Policemen attached to Ndiegoro Police Division, Aba, Abia State, have arrested four suspected members of a kidnapping gang that has been terrorizing Aba residents.

Sources at Ndiegoro division said that the policemen, acting on a tip-off, arrested Charles Friday, Kenneth Ekpendu, Chidozie Samuel and Munachi Ebere at River Lay-out some distance to the popular Aba abattoir for allegedly kidnapping Chinedu Nwokorie. The said victim was alleged to have been abducted along Okigwe Road by Akalanna off Faulks Road Aba.

It was learnt that gang received ransom of N500, 000 before allowing their victim to go. The victim’s Lexus car, which was said to have been stolen by the same gang was recovered at Omoba in Isiala Ngwa South Council of the state.

In a related development, a patrol team of police officers, attached to Ndiegoro Police Station, while on patrol, recovered a Toyota Lexus 300 Jeep with registration number KJA 769 DW.

The car, which was snatched from one Francis along Obohia road Aba, was used in series of robbery operations by yet-to-be identified gunmen.


N100,000.00,  belonging to the victim, two GSM phones, two live and one shell of AK 47 ammunition were found and recovered from the car after a police team searched it.

The gunmen were going for an operation, using the Lexus car as their operational car, when they suddenly abandoned it on the road. According to them, they abandoned it because they suspected that policemen were trailing them.

The Abia State  Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), a  Deputy Superintendent of Police, Geoffrey Ogbonna, who confirmed the arrest of the suspects, said that police were  making efforts to unmask the gunmen who abandoned the Lexus SUV at Obohia axis of the commercial city.
