Gombe Police Command records harvest of arrests


Four suspected rapists, four arrested for murderers and six armed robbery suspects were among the 19 suspected criminals arrested and paraded yesterday by the Gombe State Police Command.
The state Commissioner of Police, Shina Tairu Olukola, said the arrests were possible due to the cooperation of the general public. He noted that members of the public reported and offered useful information, which led to the arrest of the suspects.
Three of the criminals, Nehemiah Samuel, 20, David Ishaku, 16, and Solomon Sam, 19, all of Farin-Kasa in Filiya, Shongom Local Government Area of the state conspired, lured and gang raped a 16-year-old girl, under a tree.
The alleged rapists were arrested after a formal report was made to the police, while Anas Mohammed, alias Mandi, 22, residing at Bolari Quarters, Gombe metropolis, lured a 10-year-old girl into his room and defiled her.  Mohammed was arrested and handed over to the police by neighbours.
Ibrahim Sale of Dongeja village in Shongom Local Government Area is among four other suspects arrested over criminal conspiracy and culpable homicide. Ibrahim was alleged to have inflicted machete cuts on his brother, who later died in a hospital.
Abdulkarim Danjuma, 20, and Hassan Adamu, all of Ladur village, Kaltungo Local Government Area were arrested with the aid of vigilante and local hunters of the area for stabbing one Danjuma in the chest. Danjuma died on the spot, while the other murder case involved Wanman Haruna, 28, of Nyuwar, Balanga Local Government Area. Haruna inflicted machete cuts on Shehu Hajara 50, on the belief that Hajara killed his father through witchcraft.
The six armed robbery suspects, Dauda Iliya of Unguwa-Uku, Iliyasu Musa, Yayaji Ibrahim, Yusuf Ishaku, Bello Adamu and Sale Adamu, all of Gombe metropolis, were alleged to have committed the crimes at different times.
The police said that different arms, as well as items such as handsets, DVD players, wristwatches, 14 laptops, among others were recovered from them.
Olukola said some of the suspects were arrested while attempting to escape. He commended members of the public for divulging useful information that led to the arrest of the criminal elements.
