280 ASSASSINATED, 833 VEHICLES STOLEN IN 12 MONTHS

Abba
Honestly, the security report, from the Town Hall Meeting on Security held at the City Hall, Lagos Island, on Thursday is not comforting at all! How can 288 persons be assassinated in the last one year? I mean, coupled with the killing spree going on in the north, no thanks to Boko Haram. How many Nigerians are still alive sef?

The saddening report was given by the Commissioner of Police, Kayode Aderanti. He also said that a total of 833 vehicles were stolen in Lagos State.
As far I’m concern, it means our police need to do more in security of lives and property. Don’t forget that the 280 assassinated, is just the official. Just imagining those not reported, is mind boggling. The Inspector General of Police, Suleiman, Abba, should leave politicians alone and face his job squarely abeg!
Aderanti
Aderanti said the 280 people were murdered in activities relating to street gangsterism, motor transport unionism, and thuggery.
Aderanti said that 73 armed robbers and eight policemen were also killed in the state during exchange of gunfire between the police and robbers.
Aderanti said that 423 armed robbers were arrested, adding that about 4,043 ammunition were recovered from criminals.
In the last one year, the commissioner said that the police foiled 372 armed robbery incidents, saying that only 560 of the stolen vehicles were recovered. He added that 358 of the vehicles were snatched at gunpoint while 468 others were stolen from where they were parked and seven others driven away.
Governor Babatunde Fashola, appealed to corporate bodies and individuals to continue to support the Lagos State Security Trust Fund (LSSTF), saying that any setback allowed would have untold consequence.
He said: “The work has not yet finished. There is more to be done. We have started some. We intend to provide modern patrol vehicles to every police division in Lagos and every Area Command. We intend to undertake prison service reforms by building a 21st century prison and we have completed the design. We are also developing the investigative capacity of law enforcement through training and support with the aim of providing them with forensic capabilities.”
