TWO POLICEMEN, FEMALE CORPS MEMBER KILLED AS ROBBERS STORM FIRST BANK

Two police officers, a female corps member and another man using the Automated Teller Machine (ATM) were on Monday killed by armed hoodlums who attacked the Ikere-Ekiti branch of First Bank Plc.
The robbers also went away with an undisclosed amount of money.
Before the robbers struck, they first attacked a nearby police station, raining bullets on the unsuspecting officers and in the process, a senior policeman, said to be the Divisional Crime Officer and a junior policewoman were killed.
When contacted, the Police Public Relations Officer, Ekiti State Command, Mr Victor Babayemi, confirmed the incident, but said he could only give better details when his men come back from the scene.
The robbers, whose number could not be ascertained as at press time, went to the bank and shot sporadically and killed the female corps member and another person using the ATM.
The robbers reportedly escaped through Akure Road after been accosted by soldiers who were at a checkpoint in Ise-Ekiti, about 10 kilometres away.
The robbery at the bank is the second in about a year, as the same branch was robbed late last year.
Also, as if it has become the trend for First Bank branches in Ekiti State to be robbed, the bank' branch in Ilasa-Ekiti was attacked last year and four policemen were killed.
The policemen were also working at a nearby police station.
Only late last month, the branch of the bank in Ifaki-Ekiti was attacked and riddled with bullets.
The bank's branch in Okeyinmi, Ado-Ekiti was also attacked about two years ago and five persons shot dead.
A police source said the management of the bank should look inwards, as it had always been the target of robbers.
