Kidnappers snatch five babies in Benu

Kidnappers are now on the prowl in Benue State. In the last one week, at least five babies have been abducted in Makurdi and other parts of the state.

one-year-old boy, Emmanuel Ojo, was snatched from his mother near Hope Clinic in the Wadata area of Makurdi, the state capital.

The mother, Mary Ojo, told our correspondent yesterday that her son was yet to be found. She also appealed to the abductors to have mercy on the child and release him. Some kidnappers also snatched a baby from its mother’s back at Benue Crescent near Wadata ‘sharp bend’ last Thursday.
The mother, an Igbo woman simply identified as Ifeoma, was carrying the two-year-old baby on her back with another in her front while selling orange when kidnappers removed the baby by force and jumped into a waiting car. It was also gathered that two school children of one Alhaji living near Rice Mill, Makurdi, were kidnapped, while another was abducted in Wanune in Tarka Local Government Area of the state.
When contacted, the state Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Daniel Ezeala, said that only two of the cases were reported to the police and were being investigated. Ezeala appealed to the public to be vigilant and report any suspicious character to the police through available distress call numbers for necessary action.
