Chief Ishau Ogunlana, 85, has accused an Assistant Inspector
General of Police (AIG), of aiding land grabbers to subvert a
valid court judgment.
According to Ogunlana, the land grabbers were using the
AIG to coerce the police in Lagos State.
Ogunlana had written a petition to the Inspector
General of Police (IGP), Solomon Arase, to save him from constant threats
to his life by the land grabbers.
While imploring Arase to look into the matter before his
detractors kills, Ogunlana said he didn’t have the financial muscle and
political connections to battle the land grabbers and the AIG.
He said: "They threatened to ensure I didn’t use the judgment,
despite having the necessary papers to take possession. They also have been using
police to threaten me.”
Ogunlana said that an Ikorodu High Court, presided over
by Honourable Justice HAO Abiru, had on January 14, 2011, delivered a
judgment in his favour in a dispute over a parcel of land in Agunfoye Igbogbo
area of Ikorodu area of Lagos State.
"After getting all the necessary documents, the Lagos
State Police Commissioner ensured a peaceful execution of the judgment. The joy
of taking over my land, after many years was cut short by the land
grabbers,” said Ogunlana.
He continued his narration: “Each time any of these land
grabbers was arrested, the AIG would intervene and ensure that he was
released without delay. I want the IGP to call the police to order. I have a
valid court judgment and order restraining them from my land.”
He listed the names of those who forcefully took over his land
as; Ogundana, Obayomi, Offin, Onabanjo, Jinadu and others.
The Lagos State Police Command spokesperson, Dolapo Badmus, urged
Ogunlana to write a petition to the police in the state.
She added: “We’ll look into it and ensure that justice is
done as soon as possible.”
