The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission,
EFCC, on Tuesday, February 16, 2016 arraigned one Daniel Onyebuchi Anyikai before Justice C.S Oriji of the FCT High Court sitting in Apo,
Abuja on a six-count charge of obtaining by false pretence,
criminal conspiracy and forgery.
Anyika, sometime in August, 2008 allegedly conspired with one Mohammed Lawal to steal
a title document of a
parcel of land situated at Plot No.921, Katampe B07, Abuja belonging to one Alhaji Lawal Umar
Aminu.
The alleged offence is contrary to Section 317
of the Penal Code.
Particulars of one of the counts read:
‘‘ANYIKA ONYEBUCHI, sometime in August, 2008
at Abuja within the juridsdiction of this Honourable Court dishonestly recieved
stolen property to wit : Certificate of Occupancy
over Plot No.921, Katampe B07, File No. 10304 the property of one Alhaji Lawal Umar Aminu,
having reason to believe same to be stolen property.”
The accused pleaded not guilty to the charges preferred against him.
In view of his plea, counsel to EFCC, Samuel Okeleke asked the court for a trial date and prayed the court to remand the accused person in EFCC custody.
However, the accused counsel, Sigismund
Agha prayed the court to
admit the defendant to bail legal ground.
According to him, “the accused has a reliable
surety and has always been available to the EFCC in the course of their
investigation.”
Justice Oriji ordered the accused person to be remanded in EFCC custody and adjourned the matter to March 24, 2016 for trial.
