Terrorism: Aso Rock responding to security report

The Tuesday memo that all vehicles going into Aso Rock Villa should be checked over fears of terrorists, have been linked to reaction from intelligence reports.

According to security experts, this measure would have come up if not that there are indications that the villa may be attacked. The experts however applauded the measure, insisting it was a move in the right direction.
The Chief Executive Officer and Principal Consultant, Zenith Intelligence, Mr. Ethelbert Oney said: “It’s a wonderful development. What we need, whether in Aso Rock or any other parts of Nigeria are good security measures. It should be maintained. People may be asking why now, but it doesn’t matter when, it just that it’s a good development. It could be that there is a very serious security threat now. Definitely, before such a directive comes into play, it means there’s an intelligence gathering or security report that something is about to happen.”
A former commissioner of police, Abubakar Tsav, said that if such a threat was coming to Aso Rock, it means the whole country wasn’t safe. He added that it also means the fear, which former president Goodluck Jonathan had expressed for long that Boko Haram members were in government could be true.
His words: “If there’s a threat against the villa, it means the whole country is not safe. I said this because I know that the security in that area is superb.  This could possibly mean that officials of government are also part of the Boko Haram as alleged by Goodluck Jonathan.  If government officials are not part of Boko Haram, why should there be an order that every vehicle coming in should be checked. It means security agencies have failed in their responsibilities and it also means that there are insiders sponsoring Boko Haram.”
He further said the threat may also be coming now because of the President Muhammadu Buhari’s unyielding stand on corruption.
Tsav said: “Again, what is happening now may be because of the President’s stiff stand on corruption, it’s likely some people may not be happy and there may be a conspiracy to do that. They shouldn’t take such threat for granted. Anybody coming into the villa should be checked from afar and ticket given. The person should have something to be identified with.”
