Police in Kano State said they had arrested 13 potential recruits
planning to join the Islamic State of Iraq and al-Sham (ISIS) in Libya.
The state Police Commissioner, Muhammad Katsina, said the men were
travelling through Kano with fake passports of the Economic Community of
West African States (ECOWAS).
The suspects were arrested at Karfi village in Kura Local Government
Area while coming into Kano. Governor Umar Ganduje expressed shock
because the arrest came barely a month after the Department of the State
Services (DSS) arrested six persons for being ISIS members.
He said: “The arrest of the 13 potential ISIS fighters is no doubt a
significant milestone achieved by the police in my state, because these
men are going to join Boko Haram-like fighters in Libya.”
