Undergraduates beat America returnee to death

The Enugu State Police Command, yesterday, said it had arrested two undergraduates for the murder of one Mrs. Stella Uhuo, who just returned from America.

The suspects are students of one of the state-owned universities in the South-East.
The undergraduates were alleged to have beaten the woman to death and dumped her body in a dump site because they were desperate to steal some of the items she brought from USA.
The student, who allegedly organized the attack, is said to be a young man whom she used to send on errands. She was also said to have assisted him severally.

The Command’s Public Relations Officer, Mr Ebere Amaraizu, said that the suspects (names withheld), were arrested in Ebonyi and Kogi states by the police.

According to him, the duo murdered Uhuo, who just returned from a vacation in US, by beating her to death after dispossessing her of her belongings.

Amaraizu said: “On that fateful November 14, 2015, the deceased, Mrs. Stella Ohuo, allegedly contacted one of the suspects who usually assisted her in running errands. She informed him that she would be returning to Nigeria through the Enugu Airport. She begged him to assist her convey some of her luggage, given to her by some friends in US to Abakiliki.
“On the said day, the suspect came to the airport with his friend in a Volvo car. They came along with some family members of Stella. On arrival at the airport, personal luggage of the deceased was put in the car brought by family members while the ones to be taken to Abakiliki were loaded into the boot of the Volvo car.
“Along the way, the suspect and his friend diverted the car off Enugu-Abakiliki Expressway, around 10 a.m. They dispossessed the victim of her belongings and beat her to death when she resisted. On noticing that the woman had given up the ghost, they took her to a dust bin located near Enugu-Abakiliki Expressway, dumped her body and left with the luggage.”

The spokesperson said the deceased had been helping the suspect many years back before this incident, stressing that she was killed because she trusted the boy.
