Members of the Sisters Forum of Islamic Movement in Nigeria (SFIMN),
the women’s wing of the Shi’ites group, yesterday embarked on a peaceful
protest within Kaduna Central Market to demand the unconditional
release of their leader, Sheik Ibraheem El-Zakzaky.
Addressing journalists, the leader of the protesters, Malama Lubabatu Alhassan, called on well-meaning Nigerians to join them to stand against the misuse of power against ‘unarmed’ citizens by the government.
She said: “The indiscriminate and extra-judicial killing of unarmed
civilians by the Army called for widespread condemnation from within and
outside Nigeria and a call for in-depth investigation into the worse
crime against humanity ever in the history of the country.’’
