Amuka’s guards invited us –Suspected robbers

The men, who stormed the Anthony, Lagos State residence of Vanguard newspaper’s publisher, Mr. Sam Amuka Pemu, to rob a few weeks ago, have confessed that the publisher’s security men invited them.

According to the suspects, who are all Chadians, if not for Amuka’s guards, who told them that the publisher had lots of money stashed in the house, they wouldn’t have dreamt of attacking his home.
On June 5, the bandits, numbering five, invaded the house of the 81-year-old publisher, on Adebayo Mokuolu Street, Anthony, dispossessed him of money meant for his overseas trip that weekend.
His mobile phones, electronic gadgets and other valuables were also stolen. The suspects did not only steal local and foreign currencies from Amuka, they also inflicted

injuries on the octogenarian.
He was hospitalised thereafter. Three of the suspects, Abdulrasak Hassan (43), Umar Hussain (43) and Atim Abubakar, were paraded by the Police Commissioner yesterday.
The state Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Dolapo Badmo, said: “The suspects, who carried out the attack on June 5, were arrested July 13 (Wednesday), barely a month after the act.
The suspects, all Chadians, have given useful information in connection with the crime. Effort is on to apprehend other fleeing suspects.” One of the suspects, Abubakar, described himself as a former convict.
According to him, he had just been released from Kirikiri Prison, where he spent four months for stealing, before he went to rob Amuka. He said: “One man, called Gambo, who is still at large, told us that Amuka had money in his house. Gambo said that it was Amuka’s security men that told him.
“Gambo told us two security men had brought work for us. Gambo followed us on the robbery day.
He entered the house with us. In fact, it was Gambo that beat him (Amuka). He was also the one who collected N200,000 from the man. We threatened the old man that we were there to kill him.
When he gave us money, we left him.” Hussain, who described himself as the driver of the gang, buttressed Abubakar’s story that Amuka’s guard revealed that he had money stashed at home. Hussain said he was paid N30,000 as his share in the robbery.
They were arrested by the Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS), Lagos.https://newtelegraphonline.com/amukas-guards-invited-us-suspected-robbers/
