Immigration officer abducted twice in one week

Four days after he was freed by his captors, suspected kidnappers again abducted an Immigration Officer, Peter Ofulue. Ofulue was freed last Wednesday but he was abducted again on Sunday.
Ironically, the victim was said to be preparing to attend a church service where family members and relatives were already waiting for a thanksgiving to celebrate his release from the kidnappers’ den. However, it was not clear whether Ofulue was abducted by the same set of kidnappers or another gang.
But the abductors are demanding N2 million ransom to regain his freedom, according to a family source. Ofulue, attached to the Ikoyi Passport Office, Lagos, was kidnapped in front of his house at Ishawo area of Ikorodu while he was cleaning his car.
The source, who did not want his name mentioned, in order not to endanger the victim’s life, said the family paid N300,000 before he was free by the first set of kidnappers last week. He was among the three residents of Ishawo, Ikorodu who were kidnapped on Sunday. As at 2.30p.m. yesterday, residents of Ishawo were said to be fleeing the community.
The Ofulue family source alleged that those behind his previous abduction kept him in captivity for two days before he was eventually released after money had exchanged hands. “We have finally established contact with the kidnappers, they are demanding N2 million. Our joy is that they have called us.
Thank God. “When he was released, we were very happy. We were in the village in Delta State doing thanksgiving service; suddenly we received another phone call that our brother has been abducted again for the second time.
“He was cleaning his car for church service to also celebrate his release when four gunmen stormed his house and forcibly took him away,” the source said. The family appealed to the state Commissioner of Police, Mr. Fatai Owoseni, to do something urgently to rescue Ofulue.
“He is the breadwinner of the family,” another member of the family said. A police officer, who spoke on the condition of anonymity, said the police received reports that three persons were kidnapped during the weekend.
He said: “That of Immigration Officer, I think the family should look inward, as there may be insider’s connection. How come he was abducted last week, released and he is now abducted again and in his house. If it is not insider’s connection, it is either the hoodlums are living in the same area.
