I charge N15,000 to release seized buses –Fake lieutenant

Police have arrested a suspect, who used to pose as Second Lieutenant of the Nigerian Army in order to walk into any police station and assist in getting seized vehicles released.

The suspect, Mr. Oluwayelu Adewole, said whenever he assisted any commercial bus driver in getting his impounded bus released from the Lagos State Task Force, he would charge N15,000 for services rendered.
Police described him as habitual impersonator, who had earlier pretended to be the son of an Army General when he was trying to get enlisted into the Nigerian Army. He claimed he was among those shortlisted for the new recruitment into the Nigerian Police Force. Adewole was arrested after he tried to play the game once again on some policemen attached to the Task Force Office.
Suspecting he was fake, the policemen asked him several questions, which he failed. Head, Public Affairs Unit, Lagos State Task Force, Mr. Adebayo Taofiq, said: “The suspect was rusticated from the Federal Polytechnic, Ilaro in 2014 for same impersonation offence.
He said that he had on many occasions deceived different security formations across the country. “Further investigations equally revealed that Adewole was a habitual impersonator, who had once also claimed to be a son of a General in the Nigerian Army during an interview when he wanted to secure admission into the Nigerian Defence Academy (NDA). The suspect confessed to have impersonated the Nigerian Army, Navy and Police, in order to secure the release of anyone arrested at different police stations across Lagos.”
Investigations also showed that Adewole would sometimes call police officers, introduce himself a senior army officer. He would demand that a seized bus be released to him. The bus would be released to him in the spirit of esprit de corps. Once the bus had been released, the bus driver would pay him N15,000.Adewole said: “I was on my way to Ogba in Ikeja to collect my 2010 West African Examination School Certificate results with examination No 20108040DC, when I saw Task Force Officials, impounding someone’s vehicle for traffic obstructions.
As usual, I quickly intervened.” The intervention was his undoing. The impounded vehicle belonged to Mr. Muritala Ayowunmi. The suspect said that he followed the owner of the impounded commercial vehicle to the Lagos State Task Force Headquarters, Ikeja, where he was interrogated by the Task Force Chairman, SP Olayinka Egbeyemi. Adewole was later arrested with his fake documents.https://newtelegraphonline.com/charge-n15000-release-seized-buses-fake-lieutenant/
