Army recaptures Chibok

NIGERIAN Army, on Saturday, launched heavy attack on the Boko Haram insurgents in Chibok, Borno State and recaptured the town.

The town, it will be recalled, was captured by the insurgents last week Thursday, 213 days after over 200 schoolgirls were kidnapped from Government Girls Secondary School in the town.
Spokesman of the 7 Division, Nigerian Army, Colonel S. K. Usman, in a statement on Sunday, said the troops had recaptured the town from Boko Haram terrorists since Saturday.
According to him, the military was still carrying out mopping up operations in the surrounding environment, adding that Chibok is now fully secured.
The army spokesman said the troops had recaptured and “secured” the town.
Also, an elder of the town, Pogu Bitrus, told AFP that the town was recaptured in a joint operation with local vigilantes, known as the Civilian Joint Task Force, who back up the military in their operation.
Army spokesman, General Olajide Olaleye, also told AFP in a text message that “mopping up operations ongoing. (The) town is now secured.”
He said the vigilantes fought inside the town while army soldiers “stayed outside to mop up the insurgents trying to escape.”
