‘Why we attacked Chinese national, woman ASP’

A suspected robber has revealed that he joined in the robbery attack of a Chinese national and a woman Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) because he was greedy for quick money.

The suspect, Olarewaju Oladejo said he was an apprentice, learning how to become a panel beater when the glamorous life of some suspected robbers in his area attracted him.
He approached and begged them to allow him join the gang. Before his arrest, he had only benefited N5000 from two operations. He was on his third operation, along the Mile 2, Badagry Expressway, where the gang attacked the Chines man and the woman police when operatives attached to the Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS), Ikeja, Lagos State Police Command, arrested him.

Investigation revealed that gang is an eight-man-gang of robbers, but the police have arrested three members and are still hunting for five.
Recovered from them are locally made pistol, five live cartridges and a hammer.  The suspects in police custody are Olarewaju Oladejo, Ibrahim Afolabi and Eric Okwaji.

They were arrested after the driver of the Chinese man, jumped down from the vehicle and started shouting thief! Thief! His shout alerted people, who came to their rescue, leading to the arrest of Oladejo.

The bandits attacked and robbed Fred zhong Guichang  of two laptops, two Blackberry phones, HTC mobile phones, N120, 000 cash, wallet containing $125, ATM and Identity cards. He was also robbed of vital company documents, while the four side-glasses of his SUV were smashed.

The woman police, attached to B Ops of the Police Command, Ikeja, Lagos, was robbed of her gold necklace valued at N150, 000, Nokia Phone and the sum of N65, 000 cash. The woman’s SUV's side-glasses were also smashed.
Oladejo, 21, said that the locally made pistol found with the gang belonged to him.
He said he was learning how to become a panel beater, when he joined some boys in his area to start smoking Indian hemp.
He said: “Some of the men who convinced me to join the gang are known as big spenders. I joined them last year when Seyi and Eric brought a commercial bus to our shop for repair. I got close to them and told them that I wanted to join them. They accepted and when they took me to operation, they said I should keep a watch out for the police.”
