A retired
Assistant Commissioner of Police (DCP), Mr. Agba Nchor, now a
politician in the Peoples Democratic Party(PDP), ahead of the primaries
in Cross River State, has urged the aspirants and their supporters to
shun thuggery and bloodletting.
According
to him, it was the responsibility of every member of the party,
including aspirants and supporters to ensure that the primary was
transparent and free of violence.
He
said: “The aspirants should allow the election to be transparent. Cross
River is a peace loving state. They should allow the Independent
National Electoral Commission(INEC) officials to do their work.
Everybody should play the game as it ought to be because if it’s
transparent, nobody will complain.”
He however advised against imposition of aspirants on the party members, noting that it would create unncessary tention.
Nchor
said: “Imposition will cause problem! One group may say since you
impose a candidate on us, then we will move to another party. This is
what is likely to happen in Cross River State. If the primaries is fair,
there wouldn’t be problem. But if there is imposition, then there will
be problem because the other group will not accept it.
“They’ve
already done the delegates list and each aspirant know the numbers of
delegates. It’s from the numbers of delegates that you’ll know who is
going to win the primary. They should play to the rules of the game. Let them use the names they got from the head of the nation committee ruling party.
“Let
them not use the one they got from the secretariat because already the
state secretariat, chairman of PDP in Cross River State is bias with one
of the aspirants. If they use that secretariant list, it won’t be fair.
They should allow the rule of law and justice to take its place so
there can be a peaceful election in our state.”
