Dud cheque: Man bags 10 yrs

Chiekezie

Wherever Kingswill Chiekezie may be right now, he will be beating himself up for issuing a dud cheque.
The accused was sentenced to 10 years imprisonment. Unfortunately, he was not in court when the sentence was passed.

Justice A.A. Akinyemi of an Ogun State High Court, sitting in Abeokuta, convicted Chiekezie and sentenced him to 10 years imprisonment, for stealing the sum of N6, 354,300.00, belonging to Golden Rossy General Merchandise Limited.

He was arraigned by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, on September 9, 2013 on a 3-count charge, bordering on stealing, conspiracy to steal and issuance of dud cheques.
Akinyemi found him guilty on the charge of stealing and sentenced him to seven years imprisonment and another three years imprisonment on the charge of issuance of dud cheques. The sentence is to run concurrently.
EFCC spokesman, Wilson Uwujaren said: “The convict was not physically present in court while the sentence was pronounced. The judge, consequently ordered all law enforcement agencies in Nigeria, to paste the photograph of the convict in public places and arrest him. He also directed that the service of the jail sentence should commence from the date of his arrest.”
