Hundreds of people, if not thousand of people, would have died and injured, if bombs planted at an eatery in Imo State had detonated.
The bombs, two Improvised Explosive
Devices (IEDs) planted at Kilimanjaro eatery, located at Ikenegbu area of
Owerri, the Imo State capital was quickly and expertly defused by policemen
from the bomb squad.
According to the Commissioner of
Police, Abdulmajid Ali the manager of Kilimanjaro put a distress call across to
the police about 9:30pm on Wednesday informing them about an item suspected to
be an explosive device within the lobby of the eatery.
Police Bomb Squad rushed to the
scene and confirmed it was a bomb.
Ali said that one of the IEDs was
carefully planted in an air conditioner unit at the lobby of the eatery and the
other behind the gas cylinder outside the lobby.
Ali said: “The bomb experts worked
from 9:30pm Wednesday till 1:15am Thursday. It would have been a major disaster
if the explosives had triggered off. I don’t however believe that the
explosives were planted by members of the Boko Haram sect.”
