Hundreds escape death as bombs are discovered in eatery


Bombs planted at Imo eateryHundreds of people, if not thousand of people, would have died and injured, if bombs planted at an eatery in Imo State had detonated.
The bombs, two Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs) planted at Kilimanjaro eatery, located at Ikenegbu area of Owerri, the Imo State capital was quickly and expertly defused by policemen from the bomb squad.

According to the Commissioner of Police, Abdulmajid Ali the manager of Kilimanjaro put a distress call across to the police about 9:30pm on Wednesday informing them about an item suspected to be an explosive device within the lobby of the eatery.
Police Bomb Squad rushed to the scene and confirmed it was a bomb.
Ali said that one of the IEDs was carefully planted in an air conditioner unit at the lobby of the eatery and the other behind the gas cylinder outside the lobby.
Ali said: “The bomb experts worked from 9:30pm Wednesday till 1:15am Thursday. It would have been a major disaster if the explosives had triggered off. I don’t however believe that the explosives were planted by members of the Boko Haram sect.”
