Man butchered rushing home to mark Sallah

A man was killed on Wednesday by suspected cultists, while rushing home to celebrate Eid el-Fitr at the Ajegunle, Ajeromi Ifelodun Local Government Area of Lagos State.

According to eye witnesses, the deceased, name yet unknown, like so many other attacked victims, was caught in the cross-fire between two rival cult members. Some of the victims were returning home, from where they had gone to celebrate the Muslim festival when they ran into the clashing rivals. The hoodlums robbed and dispossessed people of their belongings. Victims were said to have openly wept as they parted with their money, phones and jewelry.
Another eye witness said: “The cult members started fighting at Ojo Road area. They butchered a man in cold blood and robbed several people of their valuables. The man was rushing home from work, to celebrate the Sallah with his family when the cultists attacked him along Ojo Road, around 10pm.”
Another witness, identified simply as Emiloju Masorire, said the cultists pounced on anyone they saw on the road.
Masorire added: “Residents in the area are the fathers and mothers of this crop of criminals. These boys are cultists. Nigerians have to wake up. There's nothing we can do than to take serious interest in our country.”
Angela John, who was dispossessed of her cash, said: “The hoodlums dispossessed me of N120, 000 and two mobile phones. There was nothing I could do than to surrender my phones to them. Police should help us check the menace of armed robbers in Ajegunle.”
It was further gathered that by the time a team of policemen from Ajegunle Police Station raced to the scene, the cultists had disappeared. The team of policemen was led by the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of Ajegunle Police Station.
