Sex workers weep as fire guts hotel
Sex workers at Phase 2 Hotel at the Tolu area of Ajegunle, Lagos State wept profusely when fire, which gutted the hotel, destroyed their personal belongings. Two men sustained severe burns as fire erupted while one of them was refilling the generator.
One of the sex workers, who gave her name as Grace, disclosed that the incident occurred on Sunday evening while the manager was refilling the generator. Grace said the manager, whose name she did not give, sustained serious burns and was rushed to the general hospital where he was battling to stay alive. The sex worker said another man who was close to the scene also sustained injury and was rushed to the same hospital.
She said: “Many of the sex workers were not at home when the incident occurred and that was why they could not remove their property.” Grace said she only managed to remove her DVD before the fire engulfed the hotel. “The building was burnt down. The fire destroyed our television sets, DVD, ceiling, standing fans, clothes, mobile phones and many things,” she added.
