Bank robbery suspect sues CP, SARS leader

Lekki bank robbery suspects
A bank robbery suspect has sued the Lagos State Commissioner of Police and the former Officer in Charge of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS), Ikeja, Superintendent of Police Abba Kyarri, for refusing to grant him bail.

The petitioner, Ebi Tosan, alleged to be one of the four suspects arrested by SARS for partaking in the First City Monument Bank (FCMB), Lekki branch, in March 12, 2015, is suing the police for N1 million for damages.
The petition was filed by Tosan’s uncle, Tamuno Amos. But, a police source said Tosan had already confessed to have collected N170,000 from the bank heist.
The source added that Tosan was the personal assistant to the leader of the robbery gang, identified as Vika, who is still on the run. “Tosan had taken the police to houses of two girlfriends of the gang leader, unfortunately, we did not see the man. “The gang leader’s phone, which was being tracked, led the police to Tosan. The phone was found in his possession. Police also recovered pictures of Tosan and the wanted gang leader.” the source said.
While ruling out bail for Tosan, he added that the suspect would soon be charged to court. The state Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), DSP Kenneth Nwosu, failed to respond to enquiries on the case.
Tosan and three others – Duke Odogbo (38), Lawrence Kingsley (31), and Ekelemo Kuete (30) – were arrested on April 5. Tosan, 20, is the youngest among the four men arrested in connection with the robbery which left three policemen and two civilians, including a 15-year-old girl, dead. On March 12, over 13 armed men wearing military camouflage uniform, stormed the Lekki area and attacked FCMB.
The daring bandits were said to have carted away over N15 million from the bank and operated unchallenged for over 45 minutes.
