Iyaloja assassinated in Ijebu-Ode

Armed men have killed the Iyaloja- General of Ijebuland, Alhaja Sadia Elewuju, at her residence in Sabo-Molode area of Ijebu-Ode, Ogun State. Elewuju, 82, was said to have been attacked on Wednesday about 4pm by a gang of six men wielding machetes.

The assailants hacked her to death and escaped from the scene. The market leader was immediately rushed to the Olabisi Onabanjo University Teaching Hospital (OOUTH), Sagamu, from where she was referred to the Lagos State University Teaching (LASUTH), Ikeja, where she was confirmed dead about 11pm.
It was gathered that nothing was taken from the victim’s house, which made many people to believe the incident was an assassination. Some people in Ijebu-Ode, who spoke with journalists, believed that the Iyaloja’s killing was politically-motivated “because she was an active political stalwart in Ogun State until her death”.
