Determined to go to Saudi Arabia for Hajj at all
cost, an assistant headmaster at Madaki Primary School Gombe State, has
presented himself as one of the operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes
Commission (EFCC). He has also presented himself in another situation as a
police corporal.
The suspect, Mohammed Adamu, a.k.a Mohammed Bala,
was said to have been
picked up while extorting money from Alhaji Usman Gurama, the Executive
Secretary, Gombe State Muslim Pilgrim Welfare Board, under the guise of
securing Hajj seat to Saudi Arabia for staff of the Gombe zone of the EFCC.
According to the EFCC spokesman, Wilson Uwujaren,
the man was picked on July 13, 2015.
Uwujaren, who said the accused would
soon be charged to court, added: “Investigations by the Commission revealed that the suspect
had written a letter to the executive secretary of the pilgrim’s board,
requesting for money to give to staff of EFCC for the pilgrimage to Mecca. Upon
his arrest by the EFCC, he confessed not being a staff of the Commission.”
Among
the EFCC staff he said he wanted to give the money to are; the EFCC Head
of operations, head of monitoring and investigation, O.C legal and prosecution
unit and head of team A-D.
Further
investigations also revealed that Adamu works with Gombe Local Government
Education Authority (L.E.A) as assistant headmaster at Madaki Primary School
Gombe State.
Recovered from
Adamu’s possession are Nigeria Police Identity Card with his name and picture
as Corporal (CLP), a temporary appointment offer letter from Gombe Local
Government Education Authority, three different copies of Hajj Seats receipts
and a letter written by the suspect on a plain paper to the executive secretary
Gombe State Muslim Pilgrim Welfare Board, requesting for money for
supposed staff of EFCC.
Further
recovered from him are a copy motion between Mohammed Jahun as
an applicant and Engineer Abubakar and EFCC Gombe Zonal office as respondent
with suit number B.A/41m/2015, Muslim pilgrim welfare Gombe State Auction form,
form No: 006, a copy of Hajj fare collection receipt, no 1152 for Gombe State Muslim
pilgrim welfare board for Ibrahim Haruna Yawale and five empty envelops for
polo industries LTD.
