Lagos State Task Force on Environment and Special Offence Unit said
yesterday it had arrested 4,630 commercial motorcyclists, who flouted
the Lagos Traffic Law 2012.
The Chairman of the task force, Olubukola
Abe, a Superintendent of Police, who disclosed this, said the offenders
were arrested.
He said within the same period, 4,272 miscreants were nabbed for
constituting environmental nuisance.
Abe told journalists that the
arrests were made based on petitions by residents.
The chairman said most of the petitions bothered on blockage of
public roads, walkways, illegal street trading, erection of shanties,
illegal structures, mechanic workshops and many more.
Abe said in some
of the raids carried out by the task force, about 60 underage miscreants
were arrested and sent to the rehabilitation centres. He added: “Within
the period of August to December 2015, we impounded and confiscated
4,430 motorcycles for breach of traffic rules.
