Banker dupes Oshiomhole’s aide’s wife of N15m

Police in Edo State have arrested a female banker with one of the old generation banks in Benin for allegedly defrauding the wife of an aide to Governor Adams Oshiomhole of N15 million.

The suspect, Miss Gloria (surname withheld), an account officer at the bank located on Airport Road, was said to have lured the wife of Mikanon Kadiri, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Security Matters to keep the money in the bank as fixed deposit.
The suspect was said to be a close family friend and confidant of Mrs. Kadiri until the ugly incident. She was also reported to have advised her victim to put the money in a fixed deposit so she could reap huge interest on a monthly basis, assuring her that the money could be withdrawn on request.
Trouble, however, started when Mrs. Kadiri requested to have access to the money and she was told that the money had been lent to the bank’s cooperative society. The bubble, however, burst when after three months Kadiri could not access the money, which heightened her curiosity as efforts to get the money failed. During investigations, the banker confessed that she lent the money to an unidentified cooperative society, which she claimed was attached to the bank.
Findings, however, revealed that the said bank does not operate a cooperative society and the amount could not be traced in any account. Also, Miss Glory had quickly written a letter of resignation which was later revealed to the victim. Kadiri then raised the alarm which led to the banker’s arrest.
