A legal practitioner, Mr Olalekan Adedeko, is battling for survival
in the hospital over injuries he allegedly sustained during a scuffle
between him and men of the National Security and Civil Defence Corps
(NSCDC).
Adedeko accused NSCDC of injuring him while trying to arrest
him for not producing client he stood surety for at the office of the
corps. The lawyer broke his arms and legs during the incident, which
occurred at Ortita Obele area of Akure, Ondo State at the weekend.
Adedeko, who was rushed to the State Specialist Hospital, Akure, was
later referred to the National Orthopaedic Hospital, Igbobi, Lagos. But
the state NSCDC Public Relations Officer (PRO), Mr Kayode Balogun,
denied that men of the corps inflicted in-juries on Adedeko.
Balogun said the lawyer got injured while trying to escape from the
law enforcement agents who wanted to arrest him. However, Adedeko told
journalists on the phone yesterday that there was a dispute between his
client, ODOPOS Property Ownership Scheme and Mr Ralph Alabi, over a
contractual agreement which could not be met because of issues beyond
his client’s control.
