When Nigerian motorists are driving on lonely roads, especially at
night, they always have a fervent prayer on their lips. Their prayers
are that armed robbers shouldn’t attack them in order to snatch their
vehicles and valuables.
Sometimes, these prayers go unanswered.
Marauding gunmen will appear out of the darkness, brandishing guns.
Within a blink of an eye, they would have snatched the car, leaving the
victim by the road side. This system of car snatching is no longer new
to most Nigerians.
The method of cars being removed by criminals from where they were
parked is also not a breaking story. There’s however a new, brazen
method of stealing cars right from under the noses of the owner, said a
suspected car thieve, Mr. Ayo Akinde.
Akinde explained that it was just a
matter of breaking into victims’ homes at night, threaten them with
guns and sailing out with their car keys.
According to him, it was a
smooth and effortless way of stealing cars. He said the method had never
ceased to work. Revealing further how he usually steals the cars,
Akinde said: “We go to victims’ houses at night.
