Twenty-four-year-old Benjamin Okoli, a commercial motorbike rider was
hale and healthy when he was arrested by officials of National Security
and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC).
Okoli was arrested for violating the
order of the Ondo State Government; the order stipulated that motorbike
riders should no longer operate because of the violent behaviours of
some of their colleagues.
He was subsequently charged to court. He had already been given bail
and his lawyer was perfecting his bail conditions, when he was suddenly
killed by a trigger happy prison warder.
The family of Okoli expected
that the warder should be arrested and charged for murder. They were
however shocked and now crying foul, when nothing of the matter had been
heard for five months now. The family is now demanding for justice,
insisting that Okoli was killed in his prime.
