Ajewole was said to have been arrested after he called the police to come and arrest his flat mate, Monday Bassey for stealing his chicken. Ajewole was said to have been pushing Bassey into the police van, when Bassey suddenly fell and banged his head on the granite floor. He died.
The police moved his corpse and immediately slammed handcuffs on Ajewole.
The incident which occurred on December 12, 2015, left residents stunned. It was gathered that everyone knew the duo to be the best of buddies. Ajewole, 38, killed Bassey, 28, about 3pm, on Adebowale Street, Oke-Aro, Akure, the Ondo State capital. It was gathered that the two had been quarreling over the missing chicken, with Bassey denying knowing anything about it. The feathers of the chicken were however discovered among his things just as he was about to move out of the flat because of the quarrel. Furious over the discovery, Ajewole ran to call the police to arrest his friend. When the police arrived, Ajewole started pushing Bassey to go and enter the police van. The man allegedly slipped during one of the forceful pushes from Ajewole. He banged his head on the floor and died.
