Hell was let loose in Onitsha, Anambra State yesterday as hoodlums
numbering over 1,000 held residents and visitors alike hostage and shut
down businesses and other activities for more than eight hours.
At the
end, over 30 people were injured.
The Divisional Police Officer, Central Police Station, Onitsha, CSP
Mark Ijarafu, who narrowly escaped being lynched by the hoodlums,
relayed his experience to our correspondent. He said: “We received
distress call that some hoodlums operating on motorcycles armed with
machetes and other dangerous weapons were terrorising people and
disturbing business and other activities around Main Market, Onitsha.
