One person was yesterday injured when hoodlums numbering over 10
invaded a police station at Noyo community in Ikwo Local Government Area
of Ebonyi State.
A witness said the hoodlums were armed with AK47 rifles when they stormed the police station.
The witness added that some policemen who were on duty ran away from
the station on sighting the armed men. Confirming the incident, the
state Commissioner of Police, Peace Abdallah, said police foiled attempt
by the hoodlums to set the police station ablaze.
According to the commissioner, the hoodlums’ efforts to torch the
station were aborted. She said: “The gang who operated with AK47 rifles
poured petrol and threw fire into the DPO’s Office before they were
repelled by the superior firepower of officers on duty.
“All the officers and men at the station are safe except a guard who
sustained injury during the attack.” Abdallah added that the police had
begun trailing the hoodlums.
The commissioner urged members of the public to always provide useful
information to the police to enable them to carry out their operations
effectively.
