Police have arrested a trader in Aba, Abia State for allegedly being
an informant of kidnappers who have been terrorising the commercial
city.
The suspect, identified simply as Uwakwe, who sells second hand
clothes and resides on Hospital Road, in Abia, was said to have given
information to kidnappers over a period of time. His information has led
to the abduction of prominent men in the area, among them a popular
medical doctor and a businessman whose office was adjacent to the
suspect’s house.
A police source said Uwakwe’s business, which he used as cover, was
to go to the New Ngwa Road Market and pick second hand clothes of the
highest quality and resell them to prominent men in the city. According
to the source, with this, the suspect became very close to some of the
prominent men that he was able to monitor their movements and
subsequently pass information to members of his gang.
