We’ve stolen three kids in Lagos, says suspect

A suspected child thief, Samuel Adebanjo, has told policemen attached to Ajegunle Police Station, that he and four other men had stolen three kids in Lagos State.

Adebanjo said that the three kids were stolen in February this year from different areas of the metropolis.

They were about to steal the fourth child, identified as Rokeeb Adebisi, when eagle-eyed neighbours sighted them.

Adebanjo mentioned member of the group as Tunde, Bidemi, Sunday and Uncle Rasheed.

While others escaped, Adebanjo was not so lucky. He was swooped on by angry youths at Tunkarimu Street, where they had attempted to steal the child.

The suspect would have been lynched alive, but for the timely intervention of the police.

The Divisional Police Officer (DPO), in charge of Ajegunle Police Station (CSP), Aminu Gusau, was said to have been alerted. He swiftly deployed a team of Anti- Robbery Policemen to the scene.
Policemen rescued Adebanjo, even as youths hurled stones at them for saving the suspect.
Adebanjo told the policemen that he and his gang had already kidnapped three victims who were later delivered to their ‘Uncle Rasheed.’
A police source said that Adebanjo later feigned being mentally unbalanced when he was asked to take the police to the hideout of his other gang members.
He took them to Ipaja and Aiyetoro, Ogun State. The police were however unable to make any arrest. They said Adebanjo took them on a wild goose chase.
