Navy acquires gunboats to fight pirates, vandals

The authorities of the Nigerian Navy, Central Naval Command, with headquarters in Yenagoa, Bayelsa State, have acquired over 15 gunboats to fight piracy and pipeline vandalism.

The command vowed to tackle all forms of economic crimes on the Niger Delta waterways, noting that the illegalities had resulted in the damage of strategic oil installations and impacted negatively on the nation’s economy and security.
It assured that with the over 15 gunboats acquired by it, the task of tackling criminalities would be addressed headlong.
Speaking shortly after its three-day operations, codenamed, ‘Exercise Projector’, Flag Officer Commanding, CNC, Rear Admiral Apochi Suleiman, said the Navy was capable of policing the creeks in the region to smoke out criminals.
