A 17-year-old mother, Miss Tessy Obianua, has told the police that
she was given N30,000 for her day-old baby who was sold to a couple in
Onitsha, Anambra State for N500,000.
Obianua was declared missing while
pregnant by her father a few weeks ago but was found without either the
pregnancy or a child.
However, during investigation, it was discovered the lady had sold
her baby girl to a couple in Onitsha. She got N30,000 and some clothes
as proceeds from the sales of the baby. Parading the suspects at the
weekend, the new Ondo State Commissioner of Police, Mrs. Hilda
Ibifuro-Harrison, said five persons were involved in the case.
According to the police boss, Obianua fell victim to a specialised
child trafficker, Mrs. Chibuzor Okoye, who convinced her to sell the
baby to Mr. and Mrs. Sunday Kalu, who were desperately looking for a
baby.
