APC bloody primaries: ‘We won’t buried our dead until the primaries is reverted’

Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Kayode Aderanti

Family members of the four persons killed on Tuesday, at the Ebute-Metta area of Lagos State, during the All Progressives Congress (APC) primaries, besieged the party’s secretariat at ACME Road, Ogba, today, asking for justice.
This was even as some of them threatened that they would not bury any of their deceased persons until the election which was allegedly won by former council chairman, Oladele Adekanye is reverted.
An APC source who craved anonymity, said that they had been pleading with these families to be calm and wait for the party’s decision. During the party primaries yesterday at Ebute Meta there was pandemonium which led to the death of four persons.
The crisis which erupted also led to the vandalism of 29 vehicles, at Kano, Ondo, Odunfa and Ibadan streets, while many people were injured.
It was gathered that confusion started during the primary election conducted between two candidates of APC namely: Oladele Adekanye and Bashorun Oloto. The primary went in favour of Adekanye, former council chairman of the Lagos mainland constituency one.
The two men were aspiring to get the APC ticket to represent the Constituency in the 2015 elections.
Immediately the results were announced, more than 100 hoodlums from Apapa Road, wielding guns, among other weapons, trooped into the streets to create mayhem.
An eye witness said: “People were shot at Simpson, Kano, and Ibadan streets. Even businessmen were not left out as the thugs looted their shops and made away with their money.  At the Kano junction, handsets and other products on display were carted away by the rampaging hoodlums.”
Our correspondent, who visited Ibadan and Kano streets on yesterday, where the primary election took place, observed that the roads were deserted. A mechanic in the area, Musbau Agbogun, said that security agencies could not repel the attack.
His words: “I have been seeing them patrolling the area. I also saw men of the Department of State Service and policemen from Denton division moving round. Despite that, innocent lives were wasted. If this can happen in the party primaries, what should we expect in the real election?”
