Panic as bandits kidnap nurses, others in organised raid
Three nurses, two men and the Director of Administration, Ado Local Government Area of Ekiti State, Mr Tayo Olawuyi, were at the weekend abducted by gunmen. Ekiti is always in the news these days, for all the wrong reasons.
It's either politicians are fighting or thugs are being killed and burning that house. Another time, it would be that bank robbers are unleashing terror or citizens being kidnapped.
The nurses, whose identities were yet to be established, but are workers at Ifaki General Hospital, were kidnapped on Ifaki-Orin-Ido Road. The two unidentified victims were also abducted at a bad spot on the same road on Saturday while returning from a social function at Ewu-Ekiti.
Olawuyi was also abducted at his home in Ado-Ekiti. A source said yesterday in Ado-Ekiti that the nurses were going to Ido-Ekiti after the close of work when their abductors pounced on them and took them away in the private vehicle the victims were travelling in.
The source, who also works at the hospital, said: “The driver of the vehicle the victims were travelling in is called Mrs Titilayo Ajiboye, one of the other women is called Mary but I do not know the name of the third person. Mrs Ajiboye was on morning duty.
The incident has thrown the hospital into confusion. Mary and the other woman live at Igogo-Ekiti.” Olawuyi’s kidnap was confirmed by an employee of the local government who craved anonymity.
He said Olawuyi was accosted by the kidnappers at the gate of his house located at Odo-Ado area of Ado-Ekiti at gunpoint. The abductors, who were said to have come in a Toyota Camry car, drove the victim away in their car. It was gathered that the five-man gang also took away Olawuyi’s official car.
He said: “Since that day, the family has been trying to call him but the cell phone was switched off. “In fact there is confusion everywhere. This is the second time Olawuyi would be kidnapped in three years.” When contacted, the state Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Mr Victor Babayemi, said they were still working on the incidents.
