Security expert x-rays ways to avoid falling victim of kidnap

Determined to make Nigeria a safer society, renowned security expert Dr. Ona Ekhomu has penned down his horrifying experience in the hands of kidnapping, highlighting steps on how to avoid falling victim of kidnap for ransom.

Ekhomu who recently launched the book, “Kidnap: Face to Face with death,’ revealed that the book will also give survival technics if someone is held captive.
Speaking about the book, Ekhomu said: “Is a seminal contribution to the field of security awareness and public safety. It is a compelling and riveting narrative of the events surrounding how I was kidnapped in October, 18, 2013 in Edo State. My wife was seized by the hoodlums in that ambush, but she was later rescued by Joint Task Force in Delta State. Unfortunately, two members of the travel party were callously murdered that day by the kidnappers.”
Former Editor, Saturday Punch Newspaper, Mr. Kayode Olawuyi, said of the book, “It will give you tips on what and what not to do in the face of death-how to control the muzzle of a gun, among other skills. It will encourage and challenge you to a life of faith. It’s one book that everybody who cares about personal and corporate security should have and read.”
The Director of Defence Information, Brig-General Chris Olukolade, who was at the book launch, assured Nigerians that the menace of insurgency in the country would soon be over.
Olukolade, who stressed that the army needed the support of Nigerians, added that kidnapping was another form of terrorism. He also ceased the opportunity to urge Nigerian media to join hands with the army in ending terrorism in the country, noting that terrorists were now employing propaganda war.
His words: “This book is one of the ways we can fight terrorism and kidnapping in the country. Every threat to terrorism is of concern to security planners and the army is not taking any crime lightly. Concerning the propaganda that is being spread, that the Nigerian army is withdrawing from the battle field against, insurgents, I would like to say, that this is one issue that we’ll not want to join issues with anybody over. All we can assure you is that the operation to stamp out terrorism from the country is ongoing and it is achieving the desired results and at the appropriate time, we’ll see the reversal of what is presently a setback.”
Chief Mike Emeka Uwaka, an aspiring governor of Delta State who was the chairman at the public presentation of the book, said that when security platform, “is developed for Nigeria, everything will fall back in place.”
Mr. Babatola Adeyemi described the book as a good tool on security, which should serve, not only security experts, but also the general public.
‘‘This book is not meant for security experts alone, but also for students, law makers,” said Adeyemi. ‘‘It’s a good collection of amusing information, which can also help to get rid of kidnapping when the information contained therein is carefully and virtually applied by the people.”
Commissioner of Police (rtd), Mr. Olayinka Balogun, who is now a consultant on security matters to Ogun State Governor, said that since everyone wanted to develop, people must be security conscious.
Brigadier S.Yaro who represented the Chief of Army Staff said that there are many security challenges in the country.
He added: “We must prepare to fight in case we find ourselves kidnapped.”
